Stoffel Vandoorne on pole in Hong Kong

In difficulty since the start of the fifth season of the Formula E, HWA Racelab and Stoffel Vandoorne found their salvation in the rain of Hong Kong Bay this Sunday.

The Belgian set the best time in the Super Pole in 1'11 "580, thus improving his group stage benchmark achieved in 1’11″592. Last to take to the track in the decisive session, the former driver McLaren F1 ultimately ahead of Oliver Rowland (Nissan e.dams) by more than three tenths.

Followed by André Lotterer (DS Techeetah), Gary Paffett (HWA), Lucas di Grassi (Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler) and Edoardo Mortara (Venturi), 3rd time in the session, but penalized three places on the grid for excessive speed under a red flag .

Several favorites were unable to escape the pitfalls of the wet Hong Kong track, notably Sam Bird (Virgin Racing), only 7th ahead Sébastien Buemi (Nissan e.dams). Worse for Jean-Eric Vergne (DS Techeetah), since the reigning champion was forced to stop on the track after a spin, and will only start 18th.

Jérôme d’Ambrosio (Mahindra Racing), championship leader before this meeting, will start dead last on the grid.
