Wickens' terrible accident at Pocono

The ABC Supply 500 contested this evening at Pocono Raceway (Pennsylvania) was suspended after only 6 laps following a terrible accident involving Robert Wickens (Schmidt Peterson Motorsports) and Ryan Hunter-Reay (Andretti Autosport).

If the winner of the 500 Indy 2014 emerged unscathed from the accident, the state of health of Robert Wickens is unknown. The 2011 Formula champion Renault 3.5 Series has pulverized its car hitting the fence. The Canadian was evacuated by helicopter to a local hospital.

The race had already been interrupted from the start after a collision in the peloton with Spencer Pigot (Ed Carpenter Racing).

The neutralization should last more than an hour, while the marshals repair the damaged fence.

The circuit’s medical staff confirmed at 21:20 p.m. that Robert Wickens was “conscious and alert”.

The ABC Supply 500 is broadcast live on Canal+ Sport.
