Théo Pourchaire: “I’m going to ride at Silverstone”

First of all, congratulations on obtaining your baccalaureate!

Thank you so much ! I was quite confident because I had a good average all year, but you can never be sure of anything, I continued to work until the end. It allowed me to get a good rating so that’s great. All that remains is the highway code and the license. It’s more fun than school and less restrictive. But whatever happens, priority is given to F2 from now on.

Four weeks ago, you were doubtful for Silverstone (July 16 to 18), because of an arm injury sustained during the race in Baku (fractured radius). Will you finally be on the grid in England next weekend?

Yes I will be on the grid there, I will ride. Afterwards, I'll see how it goes. Honestly, I don't really know what to expect, I have little data. It could hurt a lot because it is not yet fully consolidated. But I'm ready to roll. There are no major risks, other than having more pain, creating inflammation and prolonging the healing process. I would have a physiotherapist on site, perhaps also the Tecartherapy machine to continue treatment on the circuit.

Were you able to test your arm in racing condition?

Yes I went for a few laps in an old Formula Renault 2.0L. It was painful, especially when I oversteer or countersteer. But I put it into perspective, when I had the crash, I returned to the pits with only one hand, I couldn't even put the other on my steering wheel, so it was a bit of a journey. Afterwards, Silverstone is a very complicated circuit physically, and by force of circumstances I lost a little on that level. It's going to be a huge mental challenge. I'm not going there to make 15th, but I don't really know what to expect. I hope to maximize the points, and I will be satisfied with a weekend with more than 20 pts. I hope to successfully pass the FIA tests. But I am calm because there is nothing dangerous about riding. Some pilots in Moto GP ride with a broken collarbone.
