Van der Garde doubles the stake

The penalties fell before the race (see elsewhere) modified the starting grid for this second race and it is therefore Edoardo Mortara who starts in pole position. But, starting badly, the Italian slipped in the peloton and it was Giedo Van der Garde who took the lead of the race. At the first corner, Dani Clos brakes too late and hits the car of Nico Hulkenberg, who must throw in the towel in the first round.

Behind Giedo Van der Garde, Edoardo Mortara managed to take second place. But Pastor Maldonado, third and fastest, tries to take the advantage, even daring a risky overtake on the Italian. The two pilots hang on, and Kamui Kobayashi blocks the wheels and spins off to avoid an accident.

The safety car comes in to clear the cars and it is at slow speed that Alvaro Parente retires, his engine emitting a lot of smoke. Giedo Van der Garde is comfortably installed in first place and, at the restart, takes the advantage over his opponents. Behind him, Diego Nunes overtakes Edoardo Mortara to take third place and follow Roldan Rodriguez.

Edoardo Mortara continues to experience difficulties. After starting from pole, the Italian found himself fourth and under threat from Lucas di Grassi. The Brazilian got too close and hit Edoardo Mortara's car, with both drivers having to retire. Sergio Perez took advantage of this and climbed into fourth position.

Vitaly Petrov, who started from afar on the starting grid, is gradually gaining positions. The Russian, second in the championship, wants to move forward to get into the points and take advantage of Nico Hülkenberg?s retirement. But Vitaly Petrov is embarrassed by his teammate, Davide Valsecchi, who is keen to score his first point at Barwa Addax since he replaced Romain Grosjean. But the Italian, pilot of Renault Driver Development cannot resist the Russian for long.

Diego Van der Garde, well established at the front, crossed the finish line to inherit his second victory of the season. The reigning Formula Renault 3.5 Series champion is ahead of Roldan Rodriguez and his teammate, Diego Nunes. With Giedo and Diego on the podium, iSport International can celebrate this superb result on the difficult Ardennes track of Spa-Francorchamps. Sergio Perez finished fourth, ahead of Davide Rigon and Vitaly Petrov. The Russian, with the point of 6th place, remains very far from Nico Hülkenberg but has, mathematically, not lost hope of catching up with the German, leader of the championship.
