Vergne and DS Techeetah over the moon: “It’s historic and we are very proud of it”

Vergne and DS Techeetah over the moon: “It’s historic and we are very proud of it”

July 14 was celebrated as it should be in the Red Hook neighborhood in the borough of Brooklyn in New York. Not only, Jean-Éric Vergne won his second consecutive Formula E Drivers’ Championship title, but DS Techeetah also won the Manufacturers' rankings! 

This is a double reward for motorsport in France, because even if the training flies the Chinese flag, the car DS E-Tense Fe 19 is mainly the work of French engineers (from DS Performance). 

“We started our involvement in Formula E four years ago and the goal has always been to win, explained after this success Xavier Mestelan Pinon, Director of DS Performance. This time, it's done. We are Champions. 

 

It’s historic and we are very proud of it. To achieve this level of performance, you have to be in the right place, at the right time and with the right people. This (Sunday) evening we succeeded. The whole team can be very proud. We did it! »

Jean-Éric Vergne, author of three successes this season in Sanya (China), Monaco and Berne (Switzerland), managed the final round without taking any unnecessary risks. " It's incredible, he said, after enjoying the champagne. The weekend hadn't started as I hoped. This last race wasn't ideal either (7e), but that doesn't matter, because we achieved the goal of winning both championships. 

I still can't realize that I'm the first driver to win two titles. I can only thank my incredible team and those working behind the scenes. It's ours ! »

 

His teammate Andre Lotterer did not come far from winning with two second places in Rome (Italy) and Paris. The German finished eighth in the general classification. “I had never experienced such a team in my entire career, praises the three-time winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans with Audi.

Everyone deserves this double title. I would have liked to contribute more to our success this weekend (17th and retirement), but it didn't go as planned. The most important thing is that we are Drivers and Teams champions! »
