Vips disqualified, Pourchaire on pole Saturday morning

Eleventh in qualifying this Friday at the first meeting of F2 of the season in Bahrain, Theo Pourchaire (ART Grand Prix) thought he had missed pole position for Race 1 (thanks to the reverse grid rule) by nothing, or rather by 0 compared to 026th David Beckmann (Charouz).

But a decision by the technical stewards in the evening completely changed the situation for the Frenchman, who regained the 10th place synonymous with pole after the disqualification of Jüri Vips (Hitech), initially 5th in the session.

The stewards in fact determined that the fins located under the diffuser did not comply with article 4.3.13 of the 2021 Formula 2 technical regulations. The article provides for a tolerance of plus or minus 5 mm , but the deviation was 6,5 mm below the reference values.

As a direct result, all times set by the Estonian have been cancelled, but he will still be allowed to start Races 1 and 3 from last position. Théo Pourchaire will start from pole. Race to follow at 11:25 a.m. this Saturday.
