Will Power: The Aeroscreen is “a real step forward in safety”

“I'm so impressed with how quickly this all happened. Such a first run with no major issues...it's just little things to work on. » Will Power is more than satisfied after his runs in Indianapolis during which the Team Penske – Chevrolet driver was able to try the new Aeroscreen developed by Red Bull Advanced Technologies.

Lined up alongside Scott Dixon (Chip Ganassi Racing – Honda), the former champion IndyCar recognizes that this new device, which will be mandatory from 2020, is a major step forward for the series, marked by the dramatic death of Justin Wilson in 2015, struck in the head by debris.

“I'm so happy we have it, it's really a big step in safety and I think it's the best of both worlds, explains Power. You have the Halo and a windshield, so I think you'll see other categories car do the same. If you use it for a day, you will feel "naked" without it. »

“In fact, the helmet supports less load, further analyzes Dixon. Visually, there were no problems. Some of the areas with the tear-offs and where they sit in the middle will no doubt be corrected to improve the situation. »

The Aeroscreen will be tested again this time on a road circuit in Barber on October 7, with simon pagenaud (Team Penske) and Ryan Hunter-Reay (Andretti Autosports). The Richmond oval will next be used with Dixon and Josef Newgarden (Team Penske) on October 15.

Another test should be organized at Sebring on November 5 with James Hinchcliffe (SPM) and Sébastien Bourdais (Dale Coyne Racing with Vasser-Sullivan).
