Will Power takes advantage of the rain to win at Pocono

There was little chance that Will Power (Team Penske – Chevrolet) would end the year without a victory in 2019. The 2014 champion, however, waited until the 13th meeting of the season, at Pocono in Pennsylvania, to rediscover his taste for racing. Victory Lane IndyCar, taking advantage of an end of the race declared prematurely due to weather conditions.

The event was more than eventful on the track, with a big accident on the first lap initially involving Alexander Red (Andretti Autosport – Honda), Takuma Sato (Team RLL – Honda) and Ryan Hunter-Reay (Andretti Autosport) before James Hinchcliffe (SPM – Honda) and Felix Rosenqvist (Chip Ganassi Racing – Honda) were the collateral victims of the initial hookup.

All these pilots were transferred to the medical center for check-ups, Felix Rosenqvist even making a short visit to the hospital to finally be released a few hours later.

After around 45′ of red flag, the race could be restarted with simon pagenaud (Team Penske – Chevrolet) at the front ahead of Scott Dixon (Chip Ganassi Racing), who came to get the better of Josef Newgarden (Team Penske). Placed in the top 5 before the initial neutralization, Will Power was then relegated to the bottom of the ranking, for an unforeseen pit stop.

But patiently, the Australian will move up the hierarchy to take the lead over Dixon on the 115th lap, before seeing the officials stop the race on the 128th lap, after the arrival of storms and rain.

Power won in the end ahead of Dixon and Pagenaud. Santino Ferrucci (Dale Coyne Racing – Honda) finished 4th and equaled his result from Texas. 5th, Josef Newgarden retains control of the championship, now 35 points ahead of Rossi, only 18th. Sebastian Bourdais (Dale Coyne Racing with Vasser-Sullivan – Honda) finished the event in 7th place behind Ed Carpenter (Ed Carpenter Racing – Chevrolet).
