After undergoing examinations, Carlos Sainz Sr. was allowed to leave the hospital. Carlos Sainz Sr. disappointed by Johan Kristoffersson penalty
But after the accident and his time in hospital, the Spaniard did not take heart. Johan Kristoffersson, responsible for the collision, only received 30 seconds of penalties. A sanction too light for his taste. “ However, I am very disappointed with what happened on the track and even more so with the fact that there was only a 30-second penalty against the person who caused this big accident. In more than 40 years of motorsport, this is one of the most serious maneuvers I have ever seen without receiving an exemplary penalty. Thank you all for your messages of support. »

Faced with the message from the Spanish driver, the FIA could look into this matter. “ Dear Carlos Sainz, I am happy that you are well. We will study the report and look into the matter with our safety department at the FIA », explained Mohammed Ben Sulayem, president of the FIA. Johan Kristoffersson and Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky were demoted to 3rd after the 30-second penalty. But if the world body decides to crack down, the crew of Nico Rosberg's team could lose their podium.
