Alpine reborn thanks to Renault-Caterham

Renault caused a sensation by presenting its concept car Alpine A110-50 at the Monaco Grand Prix to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the famous car. After having mentioned the possibility of a partnership between the Losange and the Caterham Group to revive the sports branch of the French manufacturer in issue 1873 of AUTOhebdo, the French manufacturer today formalized the resurrection ofAlpine with the arrival of the Malaysian company which will acquire 50% of the company's capital Alpine Renault from January. The project will be to design and market sports vehicles produced in the Dieppe factory, the company of which will be managed by Bernard Ollivier who until now held the position of Director of Transformation at Renault.

Carlos Ghosn, CEO of the Renault Group, is aware of fulfilling a long-awaited dream. “This innovative partnership with Caterham realizes a long-standing ambition: the creation of a sports vehicle bearing the DNA of?Alpine. It offers opportunities for the future of the Dieppe factory and the development of its historical know-how. » Carlos Tavares, deputy general manager for operations of the Renault Group, specified that the design of a new vehicle could be completed within three to four years. “ The ambition to revive Alpine was conditioned by our ability to find a partner in order to ensure the economic profitability of this adventure. From the outset, we also wanted to place the Dieppe factory at the heart of this project. Today, thanks to this partnership with the Caterham group, we can enter a new phase, that of the design of a vehicle which will be the very essence of?Alpine, capable of igniting passions again. »

Born in 1955, Alpine has historically marked motorsport in many disciplines. With countless successes in rally, notably by winning the first Manufacturers' title in 1973 with the A110 1800, the French brand shone in Endurance with several category victories at 24 Hours of Le Mans and an overall victory in 1978 with the A442-B driven by Didier Pironi and Jean-Pierre Jaussaud.
