Cédric Robert still deprived of the title

Cédric Robert, after a long season punctuated by successes and disappointments, played his luck until the end. Second in the French Rally Championship before the last round of the season, in Var, the former leader had to benefit from a combination of circumstances to hope to be titled. Indeed, Cédric Robert had to win in the Var, hoping that Bryan Bouffier would do no better than fourth and category victory.

The pilot of the Peugeot 307 WRC won well but, second in the Rally du Var and winner of his category, Bryan Bouffier scored the points necessary to secure the title. “ We did everything we could, we couldn't do better than first “, he commented.

In this “defeat”, he sees it as a twist of fate. “ Every four years, I finish second in the championship. This was the case in 2002, 2006 and now 2010. See you in 2014! Finally, I hope to add this title to my list of achievements before then. But we still weren't lucky. »

If he couldn't do better in Var, Cédric Robert knows that he lost points during the year. “ We could do the whole season again but it is certain that it was not in Var that I lost the title. At Le Touquet, we weren't there. In Alsace, the Cévennes, Mont-Blanc, we dropped points. Despite everything, we didn't make a big mistake, apart from a small error which cost us 50 seconds at Mont-Blanc. »

It is therefore Bryan Bouffier, more consistent, who has imposed himself this season. Cédric Robert recognizes that this title is deserved, even if he does not wish to dwell on the subject. “ He was better, that's all. »

But, beyond this unfortunate outcome, the driver of the GPC Motorsport Motul team retains the positive points of this season full of twists and turns. “ This year has been fabulous. I work very well with the team. We managed to win three rallies. Now I hope to be launched for several seasons. »
