Franck Morel, from the track to the road

The circuit, Frank Morel knows him well. Regularly entered on the tracks in competitions reserved for historic vehicles, it is towards the rally that the driver from Revel (Haute-Garonne) also moved in 2013, with a “historic” car due to its pedigree.

“A few years ago, I bought the old Porsche 911 by Bernard Béguin, with which he finished third in Corsica in 1980, Franck Morel explained to us. Nicolas Forlin, my co-driver, has a lot of experience in the French Championship, spoke with me and we got started.

It's good to share several days with the team and others in a great atmosphere. The rally is more complicated than the circuit because the margin for error is fine and the learning process is long, with the tires, the grades, the degradation of the roads... I won't put the circuit aside because I love it. »

After also playing with the melody of the 4-cylinder BMW M3 E30, it is with a Ford Sierra Cosworth that Franck Morel plays his part in rallying. “I am friends with Serge Cazaux and Henri Depons,” he explains. Serge hooked me up with the Sierra with a test in Mérignac. »

Solid leader of Rouergue, a turbo problem on the first pass through Moyrazès will ruin the hopes of victory in Group AJ/BJ/NJ and throughout the VHC ranking. It was ultimately Jean-Christophe Destruel (BMW M3) who won in Rodez, after the disqualification for technical non-compliance of the Renault 5 GT Turbo by Patrick Vernet.
