The Critérium des Cévennes 2020 canceled

The placement of the metropolis of Montpellier in the maximum alert zone and its integration into the curfew decided by the government in the face of the deterioration of the situation linked to the coronavirus pandemic, got the better of the Critérium des Cévennes 2020.

What was to constitute the penultimate round of the French Asphalt Rally Championship did not receive authorization from the Hérault prefecture for its smooth running next week, leading to its cancellation.

“The Hérault Prefecture informed us today that it could not provide us with the necessary agreement for the organization of the Critérium des Cévennes 2020, scheduled for October 29 to 31, specifies the organization.

Under the aegis of the ASA Hérault, its Organizing Committee obviously supports this decision without reservation linked to the current health situation and the recent government measures taken to stem the Covid-19 pandemic.

If our disappointment is immense, as will be that of the many crews already involved and the partners who support us, the preservation of the health of the population of the Cévennes valleys, of our competitors, of the numerous volunteers mobilized and of the spectators remains for us a absolute priority.

Please know despite everything that we had, over many months, overcome multiple obstacles in order to make this edition of the Critérium des Cévennes possible. The first period of confinement, the aftermath of the municipal elections, then the catastrophic “Cévennes episode” of September 19 were accompanied by so many problems to be resolved urgently and by successive versions of its course and its articulation.

Our efforts continued until recent days through a final remodeling imposed by the curfew established in the metropolis of Montpellier. Unfortunately, the health crisis will have caught up with us.

We remain mobilized with the hope that a much more encouraging context will offer us the opportunity to meet again in 2021 around this 62nd edition. »

The organization had to deal with bad weather last month, with a revised route. A new cancellation after that recorded in recent days with Antibes, after the dramatic floods which caused several victims in the region.

The Var must now conclude the 2020 season at the end of November and crown the champions of a decidedly difficult year for motorsport.
