Rallye du Var – Romain Dumas, a podium to conclude

Romain Dumas concludes his season in style “ rally ". The official driver Porsche indeed signed a second place in the final of the French Rally Championship, which took place last weekend in Var. At the controls of his Porsche 997 GT3 RS, the Frenchman scored a second podium this year after his third place at Lyon-Charbonnières. As a result, the winner of 24 hours of Le Mans 2010 leaves the Var rally by winning the GT+ category as well as the Michelin Trophy.

Associated this time with Jean-Noël Vesperini, his usual co-pilot Matthieu Baumel being in full preparation for the Dakar, Romain Dumas progressed day after day. “We started cautiously” confides the pilot. “This first day (from Friday, editor’s note) was tricky (…). So we gained strength little by little. » The serious things started on Saturday, with the biggest stage of this 58th Rallye du Var. Constantly on the attack, the Alésien and his teammate finished the day in third place in the general classification. “The sensations were much better. I really attacked hard, with one objective in mind: to widen the gap in the GT+ category. It paid off since we were also able to gain several ranks overall,” explains Romain Dumas.

Still on the podium on the last day, the Frenchman took advantage of Robert Kubica's retirement to move up one place. “This final step was difficult but positive. My ambition was to win the GT+ category and the Michelin Trophy. The mission is accomplished, with a performance and perfectly reliable car… and a second place overall as a bonus. It’s a great satisfaction! » Next step for Romain Dumas: the Grand Challenge in Alès, which will take place on his land on December 1st and 2nd.
