Rally – Julien Maurin for a decisive meeting

Just a few days after the Rally from Germany as part of its global program in the category WRC 2, Julien Maurin returns to the French Terrestrial Rally Championship. Aboard the Skoda Fabia R5 from the 2C Compétition team, the Savoyard tackles the penultimate round of the 2016 edition. The Rallye Terre de Lozère (Languedoc-Roussillon-Midi-Pyrénées) promises to be decisive even then that Julien occupies second place in the general classification, just one point behind the leader.

A shortened Rally Germany…

Last weekend, Julien Maurin and his co-driver Olivier Ural returned to asphalt, a surface that they particularly appreciate. Ambitious, the duo had high hopes for the Germanic event. The tests at the start of the week and the third time of the shakedown only confirmed this feeling. Unfortunately, the 2016 version of the Rally Germany would end prematurely for Julien. The tricolor remained stuck in a ditch during the first special, spectators not being allowed to help it restart for safety reasons.

“It’s a big disappointment for the whole team in general and me in particular, he explained. I was really waiting for this event, the profile of which I like and I know that we had a chance to play. We had all the elements to shine and this abandonment therefore leaves us with a bitter taste. You have to quickly move on, forget this misstep and bounce back. We will come back stronger in Corsica to defend the victory won last year and it is a good thing to quickly continue with our Terre program. »

A good series to continue in the French Terrestrial Rally Championship!

Since the start of the “Terre” season in France, Julien Maurin has had a brilliant run: third at Terre des Causses (2nd R5), scratch winner at Terre du Diois and second at Terre de Langes (1st R5). This good dynamic, the double French Championship (2013-2014) intends to continue it at Terre de Lozère, whose departure will be given on Saturday August 27 in Mende, for an arrival the next day after 11 specials and a total of 143,1 timed kms.

This penultimate round holds an important place in the calendar, before the Rallye Terre des Cardabelles on October 8 and 9. Julien is in fact a short distance behind the leader.

“Almost surprisingly, I have never competed in this event. So I can’t wait to discover it even if it won’t be an advantage”he said. I know a little about the region and the style of trail. It should be quite nice in terms of driving. We are well placed in the rankings, but our approach does not change. The objective is to go flawless in order to aim for category victory and finish as high as possible overall. We now have better knowledge of the Skoda Fabia R5 on this surface so we hope to be competitive. »

After the Rallye Terre de Lozère at the end of August, Julien Maurin will prepare for a very dense final sprint with three rallies in three weeks: Tour de Corse (October 1-2), Rallye Terre des Cardabelles (October 8-9) and Rallye d Spain (October 15-16).
