Rally – The Dumas family in force in the Var

No, the youngest will not be there. But having been born on 9/11, Gabin Dumas could well bring good luck to his father Romain this weekend at Rally du Var as well as his grandparents. Indeed, if the official pilot Porsche will be well engaged in the grand final of the French rally championship in the company of Matthieu Baumel on his 911 GT3 RS, his father Maurice and his mother Geneviève will also be there as they are entered in a 911 SC Gr4.

“This is my mother?s birthday present, underlines the winner of the Rallye National de Grasse last April. I have always done things in a very professional manner, but my presence in rallying was basically done in a friendly and family environment. Besides, my parents were my ushers in Alsace for the WRC and they regularly raced in VHC. My father already raced Porsches in rallying more than thirty years ago and he still drives really well! It?s nice to see two Dumas in two Porsches on the entry list. I don't know if it's a first, but in any case we're going to have fun. This is proof that the Porsche brand is a family affair! This 911 SC Gr4 (who has already taken part in the historic Tour de Corsica. Editor’s note) is wonderful. Besides, I hesitated for a long time to register with it. I tested it with it, and it's a delight. It is also a diversification of the team's activities, which is today capable of preparing Porsches for drivers wishing to race in both GT+ and VHC. (historic races. Editor’s note) »

Romain, for his part, will reconnect with the Rally France after a convincing appearance in the world championship. “After a great experience at the Rallye d?Alsace, I wanted to end my season with a great rally and on beautiful roads, He explains. The entrants are of quality and it is another good opportunity to compete against drivers like the new champion Julien Maurin. We've also been working on the car, so we want to see where we are. I hope there won't be too much rain even if that's what is forecast. Last year, we finished in second place. It will clearly be difficult to do better. We leave with a mission: to produce a good copy for this final meeting. »

Third in the Rallye Lyon-Charbonnières and second in the Rallye du Var last year, Romain Dumas will have his work cut out for him, notably five WRCs and eight S2000s. But the main thing will be above all to have fun as a family, in order to conclude in style a sporting year which will remain successful and full whatever happens. In addition to having finished 10th in the Rallye d'Alsace in a Ford Fiesta RS WRC that he was discovering, the driver from Alès won the last 24 Hours of Le Mans in the GTE Pro category, all while diligently preparing for 2014 and the return of Porsche to the premier category ofEndurance.
