A route steeped in history for the 2021 Antibes Rally

Canceled in 2020 in the face of the coronavirus pandemic, the Rally from Antibes will make its return as part of the French Asphalt Rally Championship (May 13-15) with a journey steeped in history.

The South-East of France round will return to special stages regularly used during the European Rally Championship, mainly on its second day, and which will also evoke the good times of the Monte-Carlo Rally with the Col de la Couillole and St-Raphaël – Ascros – Toudon.

The ES close to the disaster areas during the bad weather at the end of 2020 will not be used this year, but are not forgotten by the organization for the future.

“This route had been under study for several years and awaited by local pilots, indicates Gilbert Giraud, president of ASA Antibes. The municipalities around Turini will not be neglected, but a system of alternation will be put in place in order to demonstrate the solidarity of ASA Antibes and their unwavering links.

Indeed following the tragic events caused by storm “Alex”, the decision not to use these roads out of respect for the victims and the reconstruction work was taken by the organizing committee. The priority must remain on the colossal work necessary for reconstruction and all the human and technical resources put in place to bring this valley back to life. »

The ASA press release also mentions that an FIA observer will be present at the event next May. “for a future project of even more international dimension. » What do you see behind this sentence? A project WRC ? The coming weeks and months may be full of surprises.
