Var – Mathieu Arzeno dominates, Sébastien Loeb 3rd

Following on from his victory in the final of the French Rally Cup, Matthew Arzeno (Skoda Fabia R5) got the best start at Rally du Var, last round of the 2017 French Rally Championship.

The southerner, winner of SS1 and SS3, is ahead of another Skoda Fabia R5, driven by Sylvain Michel, at the end of the first stage. The 2016 French rally champion, second in SS1 then third twice in sectors 2 and 3, follows Arzeno at 4″2 and precedes Sébastien Loeb (Peugeot 306 Max).

The nine-time world rally champion did not score a scratch at the wheel of his two-wheel drive but remains in ambush 4″5 behind the leader. The Alsatian admitted in particular at the finish of SS2 that the “the car's potential was not easy to exploit”.

Behind this trio, David Salanon places first WRC in fourth position. At the wheel of his Ford Fiesta, Salanon made a mistake on SS1 by shooting straight into the first corner of the special. His best time in SS2, however, leaves him 9″7 behind the leader.

Hugo Margaillan (Citroën DS3 R5), Quentin Giordano (Skoda Fabia R5), leader of the Michelin Trophy, Yohan Rossel (Hyundai i20 R5), Charles Martin (Skoda Fabia R5), Raphaël Astier (Citroën DS3 R5) and Franck Lions (Citroën DS3 R5) complete the top 10.

On his Porsche 911 GT3, Romain Dumas is on the verge of the top 10 in 11th position at 38″8 and dominates the GT+ class. Maxime Perrin (Porsche 911), Nicolas Ciamin (FIAT 124 Abarth Rally), Francois Delecour (Aston Martin Vantage) and Patrick Rouillard (Porsche 911) complete the category ranking.

Anthony Fotia and Cédric Robert dominate the 208 Rally Cup and the Clio R3T Trophy respectively. Gilles Panizzi (Peugeot 208 T16 R5) is in 14th place at 44″ while Ludovic Gal (Skoda Fabia R5) went off the road without serious damage in SS3.
