After thirteen years of success, the challenge is daunting. By deciding to give an heir to its Fabia Rally2 Evo, Skoda is aware that the bar has been set very high. Long involved in the World Rally Championship, the Czech brand has risen to WRC with Octavia, then a first Fabia lined up between 2003 and 2006. Preferring not to follow its rivals in the escalation of budgets, Skoda abandoned the WRC and moved towards a lower category while developing customer competition. This was first done through the regulations of the S2000 where the Fabia (sixty-three examples sold) brought the first cuts in the elite, but also at the national level (Juho Hänninen: IRC 2010, SWRC 2011, ERC 2012). This official involvement continued with the advent of the R5 in 2015 which became Rally2. For five years, the Czech established herself as a reference, allowing drivers like Jan Kopecký to enrich his record (2 WRC2018 champion) or Kalle Rovanperä to sign his first exploits (2 WRC2019 Pro title).
En parallèle des programmes initiés par l’usine, la forte demande et la multiplication des participations privées ont incité Skoda à soigner cette activité
