Two-year agreement between WRC promoter and FuelsEurope

If the use of hybrid in WRC mainly serves the image of the discipline in order to give it a more “green” appearance, the use of a fuel allowing zero emissions is much more significant.

Two-year agreement between WRC promoter and FuelsEurope

Among the changes made in the WRC Last year, the use of clean fuel was probably not sufficiently highlighted.

Sustainable fuels are liquids of non-petroleum origin, whose net CO2 emissions during their production and use are zero or limited compared to fuels of fossil origin. The WRC plays a pioneering role in this area, having been the first championship to introduce these 100% sustainable products at the start of last year.

This non-fossil fuel, which continues to be developed at WRC events by P1 Fuels, is composed of liquid synthetic hydrocarbons resulting from the transformation of alcohols into synthetic hydrocarbons. It does not contain any fossil components and the energy required for its production is entirely obtained from renewable sources such as wind, solar and hydraulic energy. Last January, P1 Fuels announced that a road version of the fuel used in WRC would soon be available at service stations.

In Portugal, it was announced that a two-year partnership had been established between the WRC promoter and FuelsEurope. Based in Brussels, this company which represents companies manufacturing and distributing liquid fuels will rely on the WRC to promote its campaign: “ Clean fuels for all » which affirms the importance of renewable fuels in the decarbonization of the transport sector. It will attempt to demonstrate the role that this type of fuel can have in achieving the European Union's climate neutrality objectives by 2050. The campaign will be present with information in the service parks of all European WRC events. .

« We are delighted to announce this partnership, which highlights the WRC's leadership in the transition to sustainable fuels and our commitment to sustainability and innovation in the motorsport industry “, declared Jona Siebel, the general manager of the WRC promoter.

« The availability and benefits of renewable fuels are ignored by the vast majority of citizens and drivers, explains Alain Mathuren, communications director of FuelsEurope. Since the WRC has become a competition using 100% sustainable fuels, this provides an exceptional opportunity to showcase what renewable fuels are and the ease with which they can be used in existing and new vehicles without any technical modifications. »

Heard yesterday during the WRC comments on Canal on the first day in Portugal: "The performance of the new gasoline is very poor (much less power) and is so harmful to the mechanics of the cars that they have to be completely drained every evening !!!
