Missing from the calendar WRC since 2010 and a success of Sébastien Ogier, then Citroën driver, the Rally from Japan has never been so close to an official return to the world rally scene.
The organizers of “Rally Japan” confirmed the signing of an agreement with the promoter of the World Championship during a press conference held this Wednesday, August 22, and during which Oliver Ciesla, manager of the WRC promotion, was intervened via video.
“We can confirm today that the WRC promoter has reached an agreement with Rally Japan to host a rally in Japan from 2019, Ciesla explains. Our proposal will go to the World Motor Sport Council where we hope to have validation to bring the discipline back to Japan. The event will take place from 2019 for probably four years. »
If the last Japanese rounds integrated into the WRC had taken place on gravel, it is visibly asphalt which will be on the menu for competitors next year for an event which could take place in mid-September (from 12 to 15 ) or in November, either from the 7th to the 10th, or from the 14th to the 17th. The special stages should be drawn in the prefectures of Aichi and Gifu.
