Four months after his surprise departure as head of the South Korean manufacturer's Competition department, the Italian gave his first interview as a "retired", as he defines himself today.

Vous avez surpris beaucoup de monde en quittant précipitamment Hyundai. Que s’est-il passé ?

I had a permanent contract with Hyundai. Sometimes in life, events occur that are beyond your control, but which push you to make a quick decision. You can view this as an obstacle or an opportunity. It was definitely something I didn't expect to have to face. This required an immediate response, and carried out before the rally of Monza (November 18-21), which made it very difficult to follow. It hasn't been an easy time, but as always, if you go through these difficult times, it gives you a chance to reflect on many things.

What is your life like now?

I appreciate it much more. I can spend time with friends and family members, which was complicated before due to lack of availability. I love model making and the mountains, and I can indulge in them as much as I want. Maybe I didn't have the courage to make the decision to stop, and life did it for me.

Was it easy to think about your health first?
