Andrea Adamo: “my worst weekend with Hyundai”

Shaken by the separation between Thierry Neuville and Nicolas Gilsoul just before the Rally Monte Carlo, Hyundai was still able to count on the Belgian to secure a podium last weekend. But victory was never in sight, much to the despair of Andrea Adamo.

What assessment do you draw from this Monte-Carlo?

The satisfaction of the podium is there. But I think this is, and I can definitely say this, my worst weekend with Hyundai. The whole thing didn't work. I think I know a little bit about why, but we're not here to make excuses. We cannot afford to do what we did this weekend.

The i20 did not seem up to the level of the Toyota...

Perhaps we didn't make the right choices during the tests. After Monza it didn't go in the right direction. We will have to use the opportunities to rebuild ourselves by taking advantage of the trials available to us. Today, Toyota did a better job than us and Sébastien Ogier had an amazing race.

How do you judge Thierry Neuville’s race?

He secured the most points and managed the pressure well. I'm not saying this to protect him, because I'm not too paternalistic, but I think it's the best race he's ever had. A great race is not only made up of the stages and a result, but also the approach to the race. This is a third position won by the man Thierry Neuville. He surprised me and delivered a mature performance.

Martijn Wydaeghe discovered the WRC with Thierry Neuville. A word about his performance?

Martijn has worked miracles. On this Monte-Carlo Rally, one of the toughest in recent years, he knew how to manage things well. The pressure doesn't just come from the team, it also comes from the media. He finished on the podium and it was deserved. Of course there are things to improve, but getting in the car on the Thursday before the rally is not easy.
