Andreas Mikkelsen remains cautious

Andreas Mikkelsen doesn't hide it, it's a little surprise for him to find himself at the top of the Rally of Sweden, second round of the World Rally Championship, at the end of the second day of the Scandinavian event. If the 25-year-old driver was in ambush behind his teammates Sébastien Ogier and Jari-Matti Latvala during the first loop this Friday, he took advantage successive errors of the two leaders in the afternoon to slip to the forefront with a 19″1 lead over the Hyundai i20 from Belgian Thierry Neuville.

“It’s fantastic to be in the lead of Rally Sweden after the SS in Norway. However, this remains a surprise. We didn't find our rhythm right away today. Only in the afternoon things went as we had envisioned. The fans in Norway encouraged us, and gave us extra motivation. It's nice to be able to give them this result, even if we benefit from the misfortune of our teammates. And, it's only the first day. We still have a lot of work to do and we need to continue to drive smart if we want to convert this into something that matters. There is still a long way to go until the finish, and I am sure that my teammate Sébastien Ogier, Mads Ostberg and Thierry Neuville will not give in without a fight. »

The third day of Rally Sweden begins tomorrow morning from 7:48 a.m., and will be followed live on AUTOhebdo.fr. Videos of the event can be viewed here.
