Breen, Hirvonen, Meeke and former WRC glories at Rally Legend

Le Rally Legends, it's the feast of rally, the equivalent of the Goodwood Festival of Speed but in a less hushed, simpler atmosphere. Organized every year in mid-October in the San Marino region, this event brings together the history of the discipline for the greatest pleasure of the eyes and ears.

For the 16th edition, held from October 12 to 14, the theme chosen was 50 years of Martini Racing. A parade was thus put in place with a slew of Lancias (Delta Intégrale, S4, 037, etc.) driven by big names such as Miki Biasion (world champion in 1988 and 1989), Juha Kankkunen (champion in 1986, 1987 , 1991 and 1993) or Markku Alén.

But the highlight of the show was the rally, this time taken on at high speed and in style. Divided into various categories, from the 1970s to the present day, the event allows you to see or revisit old glories (Audi Quattro, Ford Escort RS 2000) or more modern vehicles (Toyota Corolla WRC, Subaru Impreza 2001, Peugeot 206 WRC).

For the record, it is Craig Breen who won the event. For the occasion, the Irishman drove the Citroën C4 having allowed Sébastien Loeb to win the 2007 Rally Ireland. “I want to come back next year. It was a fantastic experience: a great crowd and pure driving pleasure”, he explained.

In the class dedicated to contemporary WRCs, Chris Meeke did the show with a Ford Fiesta. Mikko Hirvonen put his Ford suit back on for a short spin in a Ford Focus, the tour with his former teammate, Jarmo Lehtinen. When will this type of gathering take place in France?
