Budar: Loeb “would have been trapped by his cold tires”

Citroën Racing suffered a hard blow with Sébastien’s exit from the road Loeb from the start of the second special. The nine-time champion of WRC was the closest rival of Sébastien Ogier (M-Sport), author of a great time on the first course, but the Alsatian went straight into a left turn and ended his race in a ditch.

Pierre Budar, the director of Citroën, commented on the Alsatian's error.

“It happened about 400 meters after the start, confirmed Yves Matton’s replacement. He would have been trapped by his cold tires. He got stuck in a ditch while trying to reverse. »

New images from spectators could suggest that Sébastien Loeb went crazy by cutting a turn at his right front wheel before pulling straight on at the next turn.

Despite the help of spectators who tried to pull the Citroën C3 WRC out using a rope, the Franco-Monegasque crew was unable to leave. The nine-time world champions console themselves as best they can.

Citroën remains hopeful with Kris Meeke who remains the closest opponent of leader Sébastien Ogier, even if the Northern Irishman is more than 21 seconds behind.
