Capito: F1 could take inspiration from the WRC

Jost Capito savored his last moments as director of Volkswagen Motorsport with another victory of Sébastien Ogier au Rally from Germany last weekend. The German will take up his position as general manager of McLaren F1 on August 31, just after the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps.

After more than two years at the head of the German brand's Competition department, Jost Capito will arrive at McLaren with a fresh set of eyes.

“We learn a lot in rallying considering the intensity of the fight, the quality of the opponents, the extreme diversity of the terrain, the challenges offered, explained Jost Capito to AUTOhebdo. In F1, the exercise is more or less always the same. There are many good things in WRC from which F1 could draw inspiration, particularly in terms of the way in which it is accessible to fans, the media, and the spectacle also offered. »

Jost Capito also returned to the reasons which led to such a long departure following McLaren's announcement.

“Sometimes you have to find the right moment to leave, added Jost Capito. I had some very good years with VW, I'm still having one with this one, I didn't want to leave the team waiting..."
