Oliver Solberg will no doubt admit it himself, 2023 was a strange year for him. Among the favorites for the WRC2 title, the Swede saw his plans thwarted by a “bad” strategy. While competitors in the category can only be eligible for points on 7 rallies (and the 6 best results are taken into account for the ranking), Petter's son stood out more in events where he could not. not score any (podiums in Croatia and Kenya for example, and victory in Finland). Conversely, he appeared more in difficulty with those he had selected for his campaign.

In the end, Oliver Solberg had won a 6e only place in the final classification, 43 points behind champion Andreas Mikkelsen, always successful on the rallies counting for the championship. From this 2023 campaign, the Scandinavian seems to have learned the lesson since he admitted the need to adopt a better strategic approach for this 2024 season where the only watchword is the title.

« I could have chosen a little more intelligently the rallies where I could take points, recognize-he. We fought well, but with a little more luck and a little more strategic choices, we would have had a good chance (to win the title). I still need to learn a little, choose my rounds more strategically and play this game a little more like the others. This is the key to winning WRC2."

Expected in Kenya next month (March 28-31), Oliver Solberg must still define whether the event will be among those allowing him to score points in the championship or not. Second last year, but deprived of a reward, the Swede could make the opposite choice this time, knowing that many of his rivals will not make it to the African round. We will therefore have to think strategically, as he himself says.
