Coronavirus: no final stage at Rally Mexico

Le WRC was playing alone this weekend while all the other championships chose to cancel their events. The organizers of the Rally of Mexico finally announced that the event would end at the end of the second stage due to the coronavirus epidemic after having obtained unanimous authorization from the FIA and the teams.

This choice was made both because of health concerns and out of concern for transport restrictions.

“We can confirm that the ordeal will end this evening. This decision was taken in coordination with the Rally Mexico organizing committee and due to the closure of certain destinations for teams and personnel coming from foreign countries. We support and respect this decision”, commented Diego Sinhue Rodriguez Vallejo, the governor of Guanajuato.

If the Power Stage does not take place, the crews will still be able to score the points planned for the event since a majority of the course has been covered.

The Rally Mexico will therefore end with the Rock & Rally Leon super special, the 21st route of the event which should be contested from 2:26 a.m. Paris time.
