Dani Sordo fatalistic after his abandonment in Mexico

For its return to the World Rally Championship, Dani sordo will not have had success on his side. From the long course of El Chocolate, the Spaniard saw himself slowed down in his progress by a disconnected pipe at the radiator.

Enough to already waste precious time (5′) for the former Citroën Racing driver, forced to make makeshift repairs to be able to continue. But the rest of the debates were not going to please the resident of Hyundai, the i20 Coupe WRC, whose engine was far too damaged.

Abandonment confirmed, Sordo appeared somewhat fatalistic. “This was not how we had planned for our Rally of Mexico takes place, logically admitted the Iberian pilot.

In El Chocolate I was riding normally, but it was clear that the pipe was not fixed well enough. We made some repairs and tried to push hard on the following stages but unfortunately engine damage forced us to stop on the afternoon loop.

These things cant happen. We are all human and we need to get over this disappointment. Of course, it’s difficult to take when we had high hopes for this event but that’s rallying. »

Hyundai Motorsport has confirmed that Dani Sordo will not contest this Saturday's second stage, leaving the brand's hopes resting on the shoulders ofOtt Tänak, Thierry Neuville having also been slowed down in his momentum in SS9 by an electrical problem, the Belgian can however resume the rally today.
