Dani Sordo: “On the podium”

Dani Sordo, who finally wants to win this season on a rally world championship, approaches the Rally of Mexico with great motivation. The Spanish Citroën Total World Rally Team driver hopes to do well there, remembering his past races around Leon.

« I have always been comfortable in Mexico, Sordo says. In 2008, I lost all my chances on the first special, when a suspension arm broke on a stone. Then, I achieved good times. This year, I sincerely believe that I can reproduce on earth the progress shown in Sweden. I really like this event, and not only because I speak the same language as the locals! People are enthusiastic and they are putting a lot of effort into organizing a great rally in Leon. I hope to have my place on the final podium! »

However, the Citroën driver could have already reached the podium this season, if he had not lost time during the Swedish Rally. Then third, the Spaniard had to remove a radiator screen forgotten at the start of a special.

« It's annoying to fight for seconds and then lose a minute to remove a radiator screen which should have been removed before the start of the special. It's a mistake that's all the more stupid because everything is done on board the car so as not to forget this kind of thing. In fact, everyone was angry that night! But we are not going to talk about this all our lives, we have to move on to move forward. With Marc we have put this episode behind us and we are now totally focused on the Rally Mexico? »

Beyond this error, which cost him the podium, Dani Sordo is however satisfied to have competed in a rally during which he showed that he had further progressed.

« I would obviously have preferred to finish on the podium, but this fourth place is a relatively ??normal?? result. for me on a winter rally. What I will remember above all is this very good first day. I had prepared well for this event and I was immediately in the rhythm of Seb and Mikko on these very fast stages. Quite honestly, finishing the first stage around ten seconds behind the leader was beyond my expectations! »
