Death of Roberto Angiolini, boss of the Jolly Club

The Jolly Club lost its legendary boss Roberto Angiolini, who died this weekend in Italy, as announced by the Spaniard Carlos Sainz, double world champion WRC and former driver of the team in 1993 in the World Cup, before that the Italian press does not confirm the unfortunate news.

The Italian took over from his father Mario, founder of the team in 1957, and under his leadership, the team was recognized in the World Championship with FIAT and Lancia.

After the Stratos and the 131 Abarth in the 70s and 80s, the Group B period saw the Jolly Club regularly enter 037 Rallys, notably for Massimo Biasion, then all the Deltas, from the S4 Group B to the HF Integrale Group A .

Among the drivers who drove under the colors of the Jolly Club, let us mention Didier Auriol (1991-1992, in Fina then Martini colors when the team took over after the official cessation of Lancia at the end of 1991), but also Carlos Sainz, for a year 1993 when the world champion made the Italian bet with his sponsor Repsol, unfortunately without success.

All AUTO editorial staffhebdo sends its sincere condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of Roberto Angiolini.
