Manufacturers' championship points awarded in the Power Stage

The World Motor Sport Council, held yesterday Wednesday, endorsed a regulatory novelty on the sporting level in World Rally Championship, with the upcoming allocation of points in the Manufacturers' classification in the Power Stage.

Only reserved for drivers until now, this bonus will be included for the brands' championship, the two best-placed drivers among those nominated by the teams, and included in the top 5 of the ES being able to register units.

The other big novelty for the coming campaign, given the arrival of a new tire manufacturer with Pirelli, lies in the provision of nine additional days of driving time for each manufacturer, in order to get used to the Italian products which replace Michelin's creations.

The WRC2 and WRC3 categories have not been forgotten, once again with several rule changes. Teams wishing to enter WRC2 must now register no later than the closing date of the fifth round of the 2021 season.

To score points, a team must enter two cars in a maximum of seven rallies, including a minimum of one round outside Europe. WRC2 drivers and teams will need to be nominated to score points and, therefore, will be able to participate in additional “Priority 2” rallies without scoring points.

The ranking will be carried out taking into account six of the seven chosen rallies. In WRC3, the number of rallies counting towards the championship will return to seven, with the best five rounds counting towards championship points. Specific requirements have also been added to restrict the arrival of novice pilots.

Bonus points from the Power Stage will be integrated according to the same format as in WRC for the WRC2 and WRC3 categories. The Junior championship will return to a five-round calendar.

The FIA further specifies that at least half of the events planned in the initial calendar must be organized for the titles to be awarded. In support championships, the FIA will have the possibility to adjust the minimum number of participations and the number of events taken into account, if the number of events is lower than initially planned.

These measures are taken in advance to prepare for any situation faced with the coronavirus pandemic.
