Two major areas of work for Hyundai before Germany

Germany necessarily evokes good memories for Michel Nandan et Hyundai Motorsport. The competition division of the Korean brand, based in Alzenau, won its very first victory in WRC in 2014 on German asphalt, with the success of Thierry Neuville, who also signed his first triumph at the highest level of the rally.

Four years later, it is the world title that both Hyundai and Neuville are coveting, both leading the World Championship rankings before the next German meeting, scheduled for next week.

An event that Hyundai Motorsport will tackle after having worked extensively on its i20 Coupe, notably on a point deemed "weak" by the brand's technical teams, after the Tour de Corse, the only round on asphalt so far contested in 2018.

“We struggled to achieve performance on the asphalt in Corsica, underlines Team Principal Michel Nandan. We therefore carried out development tests with our i20 Coupé WRC to make progress in this area.

Our work focused on the suspension elements as well as the differentials in order to improve the balance of the car. We had a more intensive five-day test before this rally due to the multiple characteristics of the stages we will have to face. We want to demonstrate a more confident performance, but I am quite optimistic about our competitiveness. »
