Two Volkswagen Polo GTI R5s entered in Catalonia

Volkswagen Motorsport announced last April its intention to debut the Polo GTI R5 in the Catalunya Rally (Spain, October 25-28) in the WRC2 category. On Tuesday, the German manufacturer provided significant clarification since not one but two examples will be entered in the penultimate round of the calendar.

As confirmed by Sven Smeets, Motorsport Director for Volkswagen, on the official website of the WRC, “the objective is to demonstrate the competitiveness of the new Polo GTI R5 at the highest level and on different surfaces. » Indeed, the Rally of Catalonia has the particularity of offering special stages mixing asphalt and dirt.

No names have been released regarding the crews requisitioned by Volkswagen Motorsport, but it is worth remembering that the Frenchman Eric Camilli carried out private tests with this Polo a few weeks ago.

The Volkswagen Polo GTI R5 was recently presented to rallying customers in Hannover (Germany) alongside test driver Dieter Depping. No less than 15 copies have already been sold, in countries as varied as Austria, Finland, Belgium and Paraguay.
