The pictures of the Toyota Yaris Hybrid Rally1 No. 33 completely dislocated leaning against a tree speak for themselves. They bear witness to the violence of the shock. Dropped in the general classification, Elfyn Evans missed out on SS7 this Friday and ended his day in the background. Assessment of this unfortunate escapade? Several barrel rolls and an inevitable abandonment in this Rally from Portugal.

« In a fast part of the special, there were two left curves, detailed the Welshman, visibly still stiff. I told myself that I had been too careful in the first one and I pushed a little harder for the next one. We probably arrived too quickly. It was narrow and we hit the embankment which sent us into a rather violent rollover. »

People who viewed the onboard camera video counted at least 6. “ The safety cell worked perfectly, He said. We did a double check yesterday and it looks good. Before that, the day had been complicated. We knew sweeping would be a problem, but we also experienced confidence issues with the car not being responsive enough. It was better during this second pass, but we came out in a difficult place. »

Always seeking to be positive, the Toyota driver was already planning towards Sardinia while his peers continued the adventure without him in Portugal. “ There is no test planned before the next rally, he explained, but I believe that this will not be a handicap. If I can take anything positive from Portugal, it's that I won't have to open the road in Sardinia. There should be 4 of use or 5e in the order of departures which will be an advantage. »
