Elfyn Evans: “Being on the sidelines was a nightmare”

His last official appearance dates back to mid-July. It's been more than two months sinceElfyn Evans is indeed waiting to find the seat of the Ford Fiesta – M-Sport Ford. The Welshman injured his back while landing a jump during the Rally of Estonia, preparatory event for the Rally of Finland.

Sidelined from the seats to treat his injury for 10 weeks, the Welshman admits that his period away from the caravan of WRC was not easy to manage. “I finished the rally (in Estonia) and was in some pain, but it was only after visiting a specialist on my return to the UK that the extent of the injury was revealed, Evans explains.

They told me it was advisable not to continue driving for fear of making things worse. I can’t tell you how good it is to be back. Being on the sidelines was a nightmare, but it's done and now I'm just looking to the future. And I'm really pumped to be back in the car at home. »

It is in fact on his lands Wales Rally GB that Evans will return to competition. Enough to give him a boost of confidence in an event that smiled on him in 2017 with a long-awaited victory for the Welshman. From there to repeat its performance this year, and allow M-Sport to maintain its control over the rally after the 2018 victory of Sébastien Ogier ?

“Whenever you take part in a rally you always want to achieve the maximum possible and this rally is no exception, says Evans. As always, we will aim for the podium and the ultimate goal is to finish on the top step. »

Especially since Evans will be able to count on a brand new Ford Fiesta for the occasion. “It’s another demonstration of the support the team has given me. I'm really grateful for that. They expect a victory in return, I will see what I can do. »
