Elfyn Evans: “There is still a long way to go”

The Elfyn Evans – Ford Fiesta – Dmack combination (manufacturer which equips the Fiesta WRC M-Sport of the British) was a winner yesterday during the first stage of the Rally from Argentina.

By setting six best times yesterday, the driver from Malcolm Wilson's team built up a substantial lead of more than 55″ over Mads Ostberg (Ford). Evans had no problems on the always difficult tracks of the Albiceleste event, while his rivals almost all suffered problems during the stage.

“It was a really positive day for us, comments Evans. Everything worked well and we immediately found ourselves in a very good rhythm.

I really enjoyed the drive and... what more can I say? The car behaved very well and the driver wasn't too bad either. We are really happy to be here without problems and in such a good position.

But we must remember that there is still a long way to go. Tomorrow's stages are very pleasant, but quite tough and we are expecting another complicated day, which is always the case in Argentina.

We will try not to think too much about the outcome and concentrate as if it were a new day. »

Malcolm Wilson and M-Sport monopolize the top 5

The Ford Fiesta WRCs were in great spirits yesterday in Argentina, four examples climbing into the top 5 in the general classification, with Elfyn Evans leading ahead of Mads Ostberg, and Sébastien Ogier et Ott Tänak chasing behind Thierry Neuville, third with his Hyundai i20.

“It was an absolutely fantastic day for Elfyn, probably the best driving of her career, explains Malcolm Wilson. But to be honest, we saw good performance from all Fiestas today.

To have four cars in the top five, and all five cars in the top eight, in a rally as demanding as this is a reward for the whole team, and it demonstrates the strength of the package we have produced. »

The Rally Argentina will resume at 13:08 p.m., and the second stage will be followed live with our live commentary.
