To find any trace of a victory for Elfyn Evans in the world rally championship, you have to go back to Rally of Finland 2021 (1er to October 3). Since then, the Welshman has been going through a very difficult time. Lack of confidence, no luck, the 2020 world vice-champion has been a shadow of himself recently, suffering the blow against Kalle Rovanperä, Sébastien Ogier, Ott Tänak or even Thierry Neuville, all victorious in 2022.

However, it was in a completely different state of mind that Elfyn Evans returned to competition last weekend at Monte-Carlo. After a complicated year, the pilot of Toyota Gazoo Racing showed a completely different side during the Monaco classic. As if something had changed during the winter break. Perhaps still a little tight to compete against Kalle Rovanperä and Sébastien Ogier, the native of Dolgellau found his rhythm, won special stages and was in the fight for 3 for a long timee step on the podium but a puncture put an end to his hopes. Enough to find a smile again after a difficult year 2022.

« Overall, the weekend was positive for us, he smiled. He was quite good in terms of pace and we probably had the potential to do a bit more. I have some frustration with Friday when we were left out of the podium race, but that's rallying and that's how it goes sometimes. After that, fourth place was probably the best result we could get and the gap to third was just a bit too big. These are still good points to start the season and a good performance. The car ran really well; the team worked hard and it shows in the overall result here. » Just to come to fruition in Sweden next month.
