If the WRC2 field has never been as tough as this season, a big name is still missing: Éric Camilli, vice-champion of the category in 2017. The Frenchman, three times winner in WRC2 in his career (with one latest success Rally of Catalonia 2021), did not find an available seat for the 2023 season. Last year, the PH Sport driver took part in three rallies, for two unfortunate retirements in Monte-Carlo then in Portugal, and a 7th place in class in Croatia.

If he has to skip WRC2 this year, the Nice native continues to prepare for a possible return next season. "I'm training to be back, he declared for the WRC website. I'm going to do the French Championship this season and aim for a return [in WRC2] in 2024. The competition [in the French Championship] is really high, which is good for the level of the world championship. »

Camilli waiting for an opportunity in WRC2

The former resident of WRC (With M-Sport en 2016) ne renonce donc pas à un retour dans l’antichambre de la catégorie reine. “I have good experience in WRC2 and so many cars that I have developed are winning events now, underlined Éric Camilli. My passion for this sport is the same as before. It's frustrating not to have had the opportunity in WRC2, but I'm sure it will come and I will work for it to come for next season. »

Present on the Monte-Carlo Rally as opener for the duo Alejandro Cachón – Jandrin López at Citroën, the 35-year-old driver is also preparing his season in the French Rally Championship, which will kick off on March 16 for the Rally du Touquet.
