That's it Rally of Estonia 2022 is launched. After a Shakedown dominated by Esapekka Lappi (Toyota) a few hours ago, the competitors met in Tartu, near the Service Park, for a super-special of just under 2 kilometers.
In a special stage programmed more for the spectators present in the city of Tartu than for the sporting spectacle, the drivers got off to a gentle start before the first real day of competition this Friday. As expected, the gaps were not significant since 9 tenths separated the first 7 entered in the premier category in this Estonian Rally.
In an SS1 as short as it is fast, it's Craig Breen who was the fastest. Without taking any risks, the Irishman M-Sport reached the finish line in 1'38"7, ahead of championship leader Kalle Rovanperä (Toyota) by just a tenth and Elfyn Evans (Toyota) by two. The pilots Hyundai Thierry Neuville et Ott Tänak completed the Top 5.
Left in barrels during the Shakedown this Thursday morning, Takamoto Katsuta (Toyota) got off to a good start on SS1 of the Estonian Rally. The Japanese finished in 7e position a little less than a second behind Craig Breen's reference time. The Tricolores of M-Sport Pierre-Louis Loubet and Adrien fourmaux did not attack, settling for 10e and 11e places 1“7 and 3“2 from the head respectively.
Please note that this SS1 has no impact on the running order for this Friday. Despite its 2e position this Thursday evening, Kalle Rovanperä will sweep the road during the 8 special stages on the day's program.
