Evans: “We had the potential to win”

Elfyn Evans has long hoped to create a surprise at Rally Monte-Carlo, but the Welshman was unable to maintain the lead in the final stage. The pilot Toyota notably had to face Thierry Neuville (Hyundai) untouchable in the second part of the test. He finally failed in 3rd place less than 2 seconds behind his teammate Sébastien Ogier.

“I feel a little disappointed because I think we had the potential to win this rally, confessed Elfyn Evans. It's difficult to live with because you inevitably have high expectations when you're in the lead. It's still a positive weekend, but it didn't work very well today. »

The Toyota driver was unable to maintain the pace to play for victory even though the gaps remained very small until the finish.

“I couldn't hang on in the corners and it cost me a handful of seconds. We still have a bit to learn, but it's not a bad start and we can build on it.", he added.

Elfyn Evans is still hoping to return to victory since her sole success at Wales Rally GB 2017.
