Evans solid leader at Wales Rally GB, Neuville hangs on

Elfyn Evans (M-Sport) peut commencer à gérer son avance au Wales Rally GB. À l’issue de la SS14 de Cholmondeley Castle, le pilote Dmack dispose encore de plus de 46 secondes d’avance sur son plus proche poursuivant. Le Gallois pourrait devenir le premier Britannique depuis Richard Burns en 2000 à remporter son épreuve nationale.

Thierry Neuville (Hyundai) conserve la deuxième place après avoir signé le scratch sur les deux derniers parcours. Le Belge a porté son avance sur Ott Tänak (M-Sport) almost 15 seconds away, while the Estonian remains under threat from his teammate Sébastien Ogier came back to less than four seconds.

Le leader du Championnat est également sous pression puisque Andreas Mikkelsen (Hyundai) a récupéré la cinquième place après avoir vu sa pénalité de dix secondes infligée dans l’ES9 pour départ anticipé être annulé. Le Norvégien pointe à un peu plus de huit secondes du Français en disposant d’une avance similaire sur Jari-Matti Latvala (Toyota).

Kris Meeke (Citroën) remains seventh, nine seconds behind Jari-Matti Latvala, with a lead of almost a minute over Hyundai drivers Hayden Paddon and Dani Sordo, separated in less than three seconds. The top ten is completed by Esapekka Lappi (Toyota) who gained a position following the retirement of his teammate Juho Hänninen in SS14 when the Finn damaged his suspension by hitting a tree. The Japanese manufacturer confirmed that the crew was fine.

Pontus Tidemand (Skoda) remains at the helm of the WRC 2 while playing on the outskirts of the top ten in the general ranking. The Swede is almost a minute ahead of Tom Cave (Ford) who is now ahead of Éric Camilli (Ford) by 21 seconds.

The crews will compete in the last two special stages on the program for this second stage around 20 p.m. French time.
