Evans on the road to success: “Historically, Toyota has always been comfortable here”

Elfyn Evans (Toyota) is the big favorite to win the winner's trophy of the Rally of Sweden 2020. With only one special stage left to run on Sunday (from 12:18 p.m.), the Welshman is 17”2 ahead of Ott Tänak (Hyundai).

But be careful, you are prohibited from selling the skin of the Yaris before having killed it! “I’m not going to think about victory yet, he advanced in the Torsby service park. I have to continue to do the best I can. The last special is still long (21,19 km). If I'm not focused, the loss of time could be significant.

It was a beautiful day. I'm happy with the work we all did. What tomorrow (Sunday) can reserve us in terms of track conditions, for the time being remains unknown. But I hope we can maintain our good pace, which we found from the first stage. »

Elfyn Evans had the luxury of posting three best times during the three stages on Saturday morning. “The roads are quite bumpy and rough, with lots of cuts. I didn't extract all the quintessence of the Yaris in order to stay on the "safe" side. Everything's going well for me.

Historically, the car has always been at home here (Jari-Matti Latvala gave the Yaris its first victory in its second event in 2017. Editor’s note). The team did an incredible job, highlighted by the presence of three Toyotas in the first four places. But we must remain focused on the work to be done until tomorrow. »
