The inaugural stage of Rally of Monza (Italy) brutally stopped for Adrien Fourmaux and Alexandre Coria (M-Sport Ford). The French wanted to play the difference card by using soft tires then a mix between soft and hard compounds; it was unsuccessful.

The Northerner, then in sixth position in the general classification ahead of his teammate Gus Greensmith, understeered when braking and took off against an embankment. The car rolled over and landed astride the safety rail. The crew escaped unhurt but the car could not be moved.

“It’s a premature end for us, declares the driver supported by the French Motor Sport Federation (FFSA). We are doing well, apparently the car too, even if we will have to go through the usual checks before thinking about the super rally. Our choice of tires put us in difficulty from the first stage. We pay a high price for small mistakes by wanting to do too well.

Fingers crossed for the super rally, just to end the Fiesta WRC adventure on a more positive note. »

His boss, Richard Millener, was not smiling in the Monza service park “He sent me a message to say he was having difficulty with his tire choice. He lost control of the car, it’s frustrating for him and for us. It's not how we wanted to end the season, but it's the job that comes in.

I'm not sure that taking so many risks (on the tires) would have paid off in these kinds of delicate conditions. All other drivers chose hard tires. This shows that they have a lot of experience. This is a lesson for Adrien. If it had worked, everyone would have called it a stroke of genius. But the reality is different. It was a gamble that didn't pay off. »

This accident will not restore his confidence, the day after the extension of Gus Greensmith for a full season with M-Sport Ford in 2022 on the second Puma hybrid.
