Hyundai welcomes potential customers with the i20 R5

After evolving as a “zero” car in Rally of Ypres (Belgium) last June, the development of the Hyundai i20 R5 continued with four days of testing on asphalt from Tuesday August 2 to Friday August 5 in France, adding 500km of testing to the new Korean mount without encountering any major problems.

Hyundai also welcomed teams and drivers to the Chambley circuit (Meurthe-et-Moselle) so that they could test the R5 version of the i20 and receive advice from test driver Kevin Abbring and engineers.

“We are about to start homologation of the i20 R5 in a few weeks, confirmed Andrea Adamo, director of the Customer Competition department of Hyundai Motorsport. As we progressed through the program, each run of the car became more and more important and it was therefore essential to have a good test session last week. »

“We showed at the Ypres Rally that we had developed a very capable car on asphalt and we were able to focus on the details at Chambley and prove that the engine (1.6l turbo direct injection) was reliable”, added Andrea Adamo. However, the ultimate success of this project lies in the hands of our customers. It was great to welcome them to these tests and for them to finally test the car. The feedback from those who have been behind the wheel has been very positive, which is both encouraging and rewarding. »

The Hyundai i20 R5 will be approved at the beginning of September. His competitive debut should be made the same month.
