The victory in Belgium perhaps has even more flavor than that in Finland: it tastes like confirmation. Hyundai is well and truly back at the forefront of WRC with a second consecutive on the Rally of Ypres, with the victory ofOtt Tänak and Martin Järveoja. Regularly, the Korean team was once again beaten Toyota and confirms his redemption after a complicated first part of the season.

“It looks like we are in a positive dynamic at the moment, exclaimed Julien Moncet, deputy director of the Hyundai team. Perhaps the biggest challenge is yet to come: maintaining this dynamic. For now, we're going to enjoy this moment, it's so good. It’s another great drive from Ott [Tänak] and Martin [Järveoja]. It feels good to still be at the top of the standings, in Finland on gravel and here in Ypres on asphalt. »

Hyundai misses the double… but Solberg saves the day

The Belgian weekend was not perfect for Hyundai, since Thierry Neuville, leader of the Ypres Rally on Saturday afternoon, lost everything when he went into a ditch. Even if the double was within reach without this error, the double world champion team mainly remembers the excellent overall performance of the i20 N. “We're not quite where we want to be yet, but we've definitely shown that the car is capable of winning from anywhere. It’s very encouraging for everyone, for the whole team. We've had a lot of people from the factory come to visit us, families, so I'm very happy and thank you to everyone for this leap forward," said Julien Moncet.

The French director also congratulated Oliver Solberg, who achieved his best result in the WRC with a 4th place in Ypres. “Oliver had an incredible race. He arrived here in doubt after the disaster in Finland, but we tried to put him in the best conditions so that he could bounce back. We just asked him to bring the car back to the finish, but he did much more than that. He showed good performances, he finished 4th, his best result. We work a lot with him, with his engineers to give him as much confidence as possible with the car. The objective was more than successful! Bravo to him. »
