Hyundai aims for a return to the podium in Sweden

Why Rally Monte Carlo 2022, Hyundai would have gone well or would have liked the outcome to be different. On the icy roads of the Monaco classic, the South Korean manufacturer experienced a terrible weekend with only one car finishing (6th place in Thierry Neuville) and two withdrawals (Oliver Solberg and Ott Tänak).

Strongly disappointed by the result of the first round of the 2022 season and the hybrid era, Hyundai managers took drastic measures to try to reverse the trend. Like Toyota, the Asian team then decided to set up its permanent testing base in Finland. Since then, its drivers have been putting in hours of driving in preparation for the Swedish Rally.

« We reviewed the Monte Carlo, said Julien Moncet, interim director of Hyundai Motorsport since the departure of Andrea Adamo last December. We analyzed the event, the performances, the problems encountered as well as our organization. We have already worked to provide solutions to these topics and put them to work during our trials in Finland at the end of January. We had improvements during these tests and they are already showing promising results. We need to work on reliability first, but then we will work on performance."

At its lowest point after Monte-Carlo 2022, Hyundai is counting on the Swedish Rally to revive the machine. “ We compete in each rally with the objective of winning it, continues the French leader of the South Korean brand. Monte Carlo was difficult for us and we need to fix it. My first objective is to have three cars at the finish and I believe that a podium is an achievable goal."
