Jari-Matti Latvala warns: in Portugal, “we will have to be careful”

Toyota leads the WRC Drivers' and Manufacturers' championship.

With Rally of Portugal (May 11-14), it is a crucial period of three gravel rallies which will follow one another between now and the summer in the World Rally Championship (WRC). Avant cette cinquième manche de la saison 2023 de WRC, le Directeur du Toyota Gazoo Racing Jari-Matti Latvala fait le point sur la situation.

For the former Finnish pilot, the sequence of Portugal, Sardinia and Kenya should not be taken lightly. “Spring gravel rallies are very, very important, especially with three events coming together in quick succession”, confided Jari-Matti Latvala. “These events are where reliability really matters.

Estonia, then Finland, are more focused on performance and speed. We're very happy with the reliability of the cars, so that's a very good thing. In Mexico, we managed to improve our car on rough terrain. This also gives us confidence ahead of Portugal.

I feel confident. It's a rally where you can attack, but you will have to pay attention to tire wear and avoid hitting stones, especially in the second passage. »

Au Championnat Constructeurs, Toyota mène avec 29 points d’avance sur Hyundai.
