Jean Todt knows the rally for having been in turn co-pilot and director of Peugeot Talbot Sport for almost thirty years. Today at the head of the FIA, Max Mosley's replacement has spoken out against this rule which is supposed to provide more spectacle for spectators and allow young drivers to gain more experience.
The president of the FIA thus gave his opinion, while weighing the pros and cons on the question. “I’m not a big fan of super rallying,” he commented. “Maybe for the spectators? If people travel a long way to see the cars, they would be disappointed not to see them. »
Jean Todt thus thought about a compromise which could be more equitable. ?Maybe we can find a way to allow drivers to practice without them being able to score points if they quit? “, he suggested. ?I don?t like this philosophy, it doesn?t seem natural to me. »
However, if the president of the FIA studies the question, he wanted to assure that this rule would not be changed immediately. “We need to change the process, but we need to make sure we're doing the right thing before we make that change. »
Jean Todt knows he has time to think about it. The penalty received by crews restarting in a super rally being proportional to the number of special stages covered, drivers often cannot make up for lost time to get into the points, unless there are clearly favorable race circumstances.
